This Institute is a recognised centre for the study of algebra, mathematical analysis, theoretical mechanics, computer sciences and mathematical physics. The Intellectual Systems and Information Security Centre plays an important role in the learning and research processes in the area of data security, intellectual systems and robotics.

The IMCS students’ programming team regularly and successfully participates in ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest finals. At these competitions the team have won bronze medals for the three times (2001, 2010, and 2011). The Institute’s students had been no less successful at ICTF international data protection competitions held by the University of California, USA (19^th place in 2006, 3^d in 2007, 4^th in 2008, 6^th in 2009 and 2010), and also won the European Championship in 2008 (Aachen, Germany). Moreover, since 2009 IMCS has organised RuCTF, the only international data protection competition in Russia.

IMCS graduates work as researchers and tutors in colleges, and also as engineers, software specialists (designers, systems programmers, applied programmers, local network administrators, computer network security administrators), finance departments specialists (economists, managers, accountants). Yury Osipov, the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, is one of the most famous graduates of the Institute.

The center is developing the analysis of analysis of models of applied problems, algorithms and intellectual program complexes of processing and information security, designing the intellectual systems of navigation for robotics.
