"Building the Bridge between Continents"

The III International Week at UrFU, "Building the Bridge between Continents", was opened by the plenary session “Challenges and Opportunities in Global Higher Education”. The event gathered representatives of nine universities from different corners of the world, including France, China, Hungary, Slovenia, Afghanistan, Spain and Czech Republic. 

The plenary session started with the welcoming speech of the Rector of Ural Federal University Victor Koksharov, who addressed to the challenges and importance of international cooperation. The plenary session was also attended by the Consul General of the People's Republic of China Geng Liping, Consul General of Hungary Sergey Syuch, Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the Ministry of International and Foreign Economic Relations Oleg Aleksandrin, Deputy Program Director of the Russian International Affairs Council Timur Makhmutov. 

Geng Liping highlighted modern tendencies of internationalization in China, interdependency of international education and the policy of openness. Sergey Syuch gave great examples of the collaboration between the Ural region and Hungary in terms of education and Oleg Aleksandrin underlined improving levels of internationalization of economics and education of the country and the region in particular. Timur Makhmutov in his turn presented the initiative of the Russian International Affairs Council aimed at the support of Russian universities’ web internationalization. 

One of the foreign guests from Afghanistan, Nahzat Mirwais, the representative of Kardan University, on behalf of the Ministry of Education of Afghanistan, delivered a presentation on the development of higher education in Afghanistan, which is quite young and face many challenges nowadays. 

After the plenary session, our guests visited the university museum. Later today, they will have a campus tour, visit model factory and scientific laboratories.
