Scientists of the university became one of the “federal professors in mathematics”

Mikhail Volkov, the Chief Researcher of the Laboratory of combinatorial algebra and the Head of the Department of Algebra and Discrete Mathematics in UrFU Institute of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, entered the list of winners of a special competition by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation aimed at the support of the best Russian scientists.

Ministry of Education has selected 18 best scientists and professors out of 124 candidates. The winners have reached high results in the field of mathematics, as well as in teaching. Starting from 2016 and until 2020 all of them will receive the financial support necessary for the development of their research and teaching activities. The main task of the “federal professors in mathematics” is to raise the level of education in mathematics.

It is planned that the “federal professors” will carry out research at a high international level, publish their works in leading scientific journals in the field of mathematics, teach students basic or specialized disciplines, reflecting the current level of development of mathematics, as well as to modernize the curriculum content of mathematics education. In addition, their responsibilities will include raising funds for research through participation in external competitive systems (federal targeted programs, research foundations, and others.).
