The Russian and Chinese Students will create a Satellite

Students and scientists of Ural Federal University, in collaboration with the colleagues from the Russian and Chinese universities, members of the Association of Technical Universities of Russia and China (ATURK) plan to develop and launch the first Russian-Chinese student satellite “Partner”. The document, which defines a mechanism for cooperation between Chinese and Russian universities, the main stages of the work and the launch date - May 2020, has been signed by the representatives of universities following the conference, which was held on January 23-26, 2016 in Northwestern Polytechnical University (Xi'an, China).

Project participants will develop a satellite basing on competencies of their universities.

"The students of Ural Federal University will design three parts of a satellite, - says Associate Professor of the Department of Technology and Communications, UrFU Institute of Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies, Ivan Malygin. - We can create communication channels and payload. We carry out research in the field of meteorology for over 30 years and can create equipment "stuffing for a satellite", which will study climate change. The third part of the work will be formation of fundamentally new appointments to the satellite, based on student ideas. Specialists, who have long been engaged in research, are traditionally reluctant to generate new ideas. Students do not have this drawback and generate new ideas that can be used as the use for the satellite project."

 

It is planned to launch the satellite into space from the cosmodrome Vostochny. However, details of the project yet to be discussed.

"Roskosmos is ready to deliver the student satellite into orbit for free, but the procedure of approval time-consuming. Now it is too early to talk about it, - says Ivan Malygin. - The conference approved a road map. The detail are yet to be discussed: students of the participating universities will meet again in the summer school in Moscow and then in Harbin. The next year meetings will be held in Crimea and Xi'an. "

We would like to mention that the program on ATURK small satellites launch include 10 universities: MSTU. Bauman, MAI, Samara Aerospace University, Amur State University, Ural Federal University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Beihang University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Xi'an Jiaotong University.
