The University historians will get access to the archives of Finland

One of the leaders of the National archives of Finland Dmitry Frolov visited the University

The access to documents of the archives of Finland can be significantly extended in a very short time. This theme became a key one during the visit of the head of development and communications with Russia and countries of the former USSR at the National archives of Finland Dmitry Frolov.

«National archives of Finland, as well as seven of our provincial archives, are open to cooperation, – said Dmitry Frolov. – We have a lot of documents about Russia, as Finland has been a part of the Russian Empire on the rights of the Grand Duchy of Finland. And we constantly replenish our collection. This applies to data on losses of Finland and the USSR in 1939 - 1944, there is information on prisoners of war returning from captivity in the USSR. A lot of documents are available only in Finland».

UrFU rector Victor Koksharov expressed his certainty that the cooperation of the University with archives of Finland has great potential and will be extremely beneficial. 

«We are ready to send our students, graduates and scientists to the archives of Finland so that they could have access to the documents, — said Victor Koksharov. — We are also ready to publish joint research papers in our journals included in prestigious international databases. The University has really great opportunities in this area, it is the largest center for training specialists for work in archives, museums, and we regularly win in competitions of the Russian Science Foundation. And, of course, I should say about our special pride — Laboratory of for Studying Primary Sources under the guidance of the French scientist Marie-Pierre Rey.”

At the meeting with Dmitry Frolov their vision of possible cooperation with archives of Finland also shared: the Director of the Department "Faculty of History" Vladimir Babintsev, head of the Department of documentation and information support of Ural Federal University Lyudmila Mazur, head of the archives of the Sverdlovsk region Alexander Kapustin, head of Department of organizational and analytical work, information technology, public service and staff of archives management of the Sverdlovsk region Lubov Ishchenko, the Director of the State archive of the administrative bodies Yuliya Abramova and Director of the Center for documentation of public organizations of Sverdlovsk region Alexey Gagarin.

At the end of the meeting Lyudmila Mazur invited the guest from Finland to the 6th Conference "Document. Archive. History. Modernity", which will be held in UrFU in November 2016. The archives will be the central theme of the conference.
