Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities to boost research collaboration between Russia and China

The university will develop new materials and lead prospective projects in collaboration with the partners from ASRTU

In the coming years, Ural Federal University plans to pay special attention to the development of promising scientific and educational projects with the Chinese universities. A big step towards this goal was made thanks to the meeting of the Association of Sino-Russian Technical Universities (ASRTU), which took place in Ekaterinburg last week.

The main events of the meeting were the IV Sino-Russian symposium ASRTU “Prospective Materials and Technologies”, Sino-Russian Innovation Forum for Post-Graduate Students and the working meeting of the association. 140 representatives of 22 Russian and Chinese universities, including Harbin Institute of Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, National University of Science and Technology MISiS, Moscow Aviation Institute, Tomsk State University and other universities, took part in the events.

We would like to note, that this large event attracted many young and promising researchers.  Organizers of the Innovation Forum awarded six best reports of the young scientists: Lev Agafonov, Andrei Novikov and Aleksander Yesin from Russia, and Tang Wei, Fu Xu, Wang Shaoquan from China.

Vice Rector for Science Vladimir Kruzhaev noted, that the event was very productive. One of the important factors was the fact that university is establishing and developing BRICS Center of Material Studies, so live communication with the representatives of the leading Chinese universities is extremely important.

“During the meeting UrFU scientists had an opportunity to establish direct links with their Chinese colleagues, - said Vladimir Kruzhaev. – Our guests from China visited university’s laboratories, we exchanged experience. We hope it will result in prospective collaboration. The university is aspiring to develop such cooperation, and it is very important to start actual work on the existing agreements. The variety of projects is big; it can be related to nanotechnologies, development of new materials, creation of space satellites, and development of the engine for modern passenger liners. The Chinese partners are ready to solve such tasks together, they see the opportunities we have, the potential of our scientific schools.”

The important result of the meeting was an agreement to create a working group, which will organize educational and scientific projects of ASRTU. As a result, the group will choose several fields, which are relevant for the universities-members of the association. It will allow to effectively develop and launch joint educational programs, including network programs, organize students’ exchange and conduct scientific research on a higher level.

ASRTU was established in 2011 in the branch of Harbin Institute of Technology in Shenzhen. The association was created in order to unite the leading technical universities of Russia and China to train high-qualified specialists for innovative economy, support academic exchange of students and lecturers, develop scientific and technical cooperation between Russia and China.
