"Buddhist Master Atisha: cross-cultural relations of India and Asia"

The exhibition is held within the visit of Indian specialist

The exhibition "Buddhist Master Atisha: cross-cultural relations of India and Asia" will be held on November 20 at 16:10 at the Center of Contemporary Culture of UrFU Faculty of Arts and Cultural Studies (4th floor, Lenina, 51).

The exposition is a result of years of work of Professor Shishibala (India, Delhi). The study covered cultural and spiritual heritage of the Buddhist Master Atisha (982-1054), the founder of the Kadampa school, an outstanding Indian thinker, who to reestablished Buddhism in Tibet after the persecution of King Langdarma.

The purpose of the exhibition is to show documentary photo-images of places associated with the life of Atisha: Bangladesh, the place of his birth; Indian monasteries, where he studied; Indonesia, where he went on a dangerous journey to learn from renowned teacher Dharmakirti; Nepal, which was on the way to Tibet; Vikramashila University, where he has been rector for a long time; monasteries and churches of the West and Central Tibet, where he spent most of his life.

A number of researchers, archaeologists and Buddhist teachers passed the documents and allowed to scan them for the exhibition.

Professor Shashibala is a specialist in Buddhist art of Japan, India and Indonesia, Sanskrit texts (Ph.D. Japanese Buddhist Art). Researcher of the International Academy of Indian Culture (New Delhi), lecturer at Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Mumbai, and others. The curator of the exhibition and author of the research projects dedicated to Kumarajiva and Atisha in Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mongolia.
