Ural Federal University ranked among the best universities of Europe and Asia

The first universities ranking of emerging Europe and Central Asia has been released today by QS World University Rankings

Ural Federal University (UrFU, Ekaterinburg) entered the top-60 of The Emerging Europe and Central Asia Ranking, which has been released today by QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

In the released ranking UrFU holds the 9^th place among the universities, which participate in The Program of Global Competitiveness Enhancement «5-100-2020» and together with Kazan Federal University is in 51-60 group of the ranking.

The top position went to Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. One other Russian university also entered top-3: Novosibirsk State University holds the third place. Second place went to the Charles University in Prague.

The experts examined 368 universities of 30 countries in Europe and Central Asia, 255 of which had never entered QS Rankings before.

"Universities of Eastern Europe and Central Asia are beginning to make more significant contribution to the international higher education, - said the head of QS Research Department, Ben Souter. - Today, they are not just competing at the national level, but enter international arena, stimulating innovations and promoting their strong assets as never before ".

«QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia - 2014" has been published today, it was announced at the conference "The growing potential: Emerging Europe and Central Asia" in Budapest.

"Our goal is to provide universities with a platform, which will allow them to show their best, and students with a new tool for comparing universities," - adds Ben Souter.

Maxim Khomyakov, UrFU Vice-Rector for International Relations comments: "The new ranking published by QS captures the distribution of forces in the region at the moment. Ural Federal University holds good positions, confirming its leading position among universities in Emerging Europe and Central Asia. Impressive progress of other Russian universities is also worth mentioning. It is important to note that this ranking uses different methodology: the evaluation of universities takes into account not only the standard parameters of global QS ranking, but also some new parameters, such as the effectiveness of the online resources of the university and the proportion of lecturers with a PhD degree. This means that systematic approach to work with the Internet resources (focusing on performance in Webometrics rating) and effective management of structural changes will play a special role in the planning of university development strategy”.

QS Quacquarelli Symonds Company publishes QS World University Rankings  every year for more than ten years. According to the results of the latest ranking, Ural Federal University enters top 550+ of the best universities in the world.
