UrFU scientists developed the most stable system of radio sounding in the world

Atmospheric sounding equipment is being prepared for the shipment to Vostochny Cosmodrome

The development team of UrFU Institute of Radio Electronics and Information Technologies worked on a unique system of radio-sounding "POLUS" for the Russian cosmodrome for three years. It is a complex of two sensing systems, two radar systems and one radiometric system. The system had been developed and tested for the first time in December 2012 at the Baikonur Cosmodrome. The obtained results allowed to improve the quality and performance characteristics significantly and perform some improvements.

According to the head of the developers group, Vyacheslav Ivanov, Professor of Department of Technology and Communications, the system "POLUS", produced at the Ural factories "Vector" and "Radium", is the most stable in the world at the moment.

"The atmosphere is significantly affecting the flight path, and this change is a strong hindrance. The accurate information on meteorological parameters greatly facilitates space launches, and is important for adjusting the launches of even heavy missiles", - said Vyacheslav Ivanov.

By the spring of the next year, the system "POLUS" will be ready for shipment to the first Russian cosmodrome " Vostochny ", which is located  in the Amur region.
