Ural Federal University found strategic partners to create laser meter

Small innovative enterprise “Geomera” established with the participation of Ural Federal University (UrFU) started  developing laser measuring system on the basis of a coordinate measuring machine. Funds for development were granted by the “Skolkovo” foundation and  “Naumen” company.  

– The strategic investor, - points out Dmitry Lavrinov, chief officer of “Geomera”, – shares with us not only money, but also its own experience in software development and operation. Our collaboration gives our partner one more opportunity to enter the market of software supply for industrial companies. In the near future there will be a considerable repartition in the software market due to necessity of import substitution as well.

Next summer trial operation of the system will take place. The system will provide automatic measurement of a big hardware flow of complex configuration. By 2015 the system is supposed to start operating. The thread put on pipes and pipe unions will be the first object measured in such way that will also encourage import substitution.  

A leading manufacturer of measuring machines, Italian company “Hexagon”, showed a keen interest in Geomera’s works. Currently “Geomera” considers production of turbine buckets as a new promising direction.

Mathematical algorithm that is in the basis of development was created several years ago in UrFU. University’s venture fund for innovation development supported the program and thus helped to find effective commercialization mechanisms.
