UrFU teams took the 5th and the 6th places in “Positive Hack Days V” competition

HackerDom and Noobs4Win hacked ATMs with "publes" to demonstrate the basics of information security

Senior students and graduates of UrFU Institute of Mathematics and Computer Sciences took part in international competitions “Positive Hack Days V”. They took the 5th and the 6^th places.

At these competitions, information security specialists tried to hack an ATM, withdraw larger sum of money than was available on the card and to hack model of a steam locomotive that rides on a special stand and learn how to control it.

"For each task the team received “publes”, a game currency. The team with the largest sum of publes won, - says a member of HackerDom, Andrey Gein. - Publes could be traded on the stock market; we could influence the stock price on that market, releasing fake news on the site, after hacking the site. We were also given the old cell phone, and it was necessary to intercept other people's text messages and calls".

 “Positive Hack Days V” competition, which was held on May 26-27, is a part of a major international forum PHDays, devoted to practical issues of information security. PHDays are held in Moscow region since 2011.

Students of UrFU Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science take part in them each year. The forum program traditionally includes not only CTF-competition, but also round tables, master classes, presentations and concerts.
