I always miss you, UrFU!
Thailand
Master in International Relations, Institute of Social and Political Sciences
Candidate of Historical Sciences, Institute of Humanities and Arts
My name is Jiraporn Treewisesorn. I'm 31 years old. Now I live in Bangkok, Thailand. Currently I'm working as a part-time lecturer at Thammasat University and a volunteer interpreter at the Office of the Judiciary of the Kingdom of Thailand.
I also participate as a co-editor in the project of the Russian Embassy and the major of Russian Studies of Thammasat University translating the Official Facebook page of the Embassy from Russian into Thai.
I lived in Ekaterinburg, Russia, for seven years. After obtaining a Bachelor's degree at Thammasat University in Thailand I got a scholarship from the Russian Government. In 2007, I took a Russian language course at Ural State University (now UrFU). In 2008, I started my Master's degree, studying International Relations. After that in 2010, I decided to obtain a degree of Candidate of Sciences (Russian Scholarship too) in the field of Historical Science at Ural Federal University.
I have to say that not only my studying at UrFU helps my career. When I was studying in Russia, I had the chance to learn the Russian language better and to familiarize myself with the culture. As we know, there are many people from Russia in Thailand like tourists, businessmen, etc. It’s very good because I can use the Russian language for my work. In April 2015 there was a good experience in my life when I was invited by MFA of Thailand to be Master of ceremony for the official visit of the Prime-minister Dmitry Medvedev to Thailand.
Being a student in Ekaterinburg was a great experience and gave me some special memories. Why do I think so?
Firstly, because I really love the History of Russia. I have read the story of Romanov and The Tsar's family many times. So I know that Ekaterinburg was the place where the family of deposed Tsar Nicholas II were sent to internal exile and that they were imprisoned in the Ipatiev House in this city.
I remember the first moment when I came to Ekaterinburg, everything in the city was very exciting! I can’t deny that I was enjoying my time there.
Secondly, life for young people is very attractive, especially in the Ural capital at UrFU. And the education system in Russia has some deep-rooted traditions that differ greatly from Thailand. It means that the studies and exams require you to have knowledge of the entire curriculum and are quite demanding. The system relies mostly on self-learning, and this can pose a challenge for some foreigners – but it’s ideal for most Russians. For the first year of my being a student there many times I said to myself, “You just have to get used to it.”
The only thing I would like to wish to the University is to organize more international conferences. If I have a chance, I would like to participate in one.
Thank you for the interview and I always miss you, UrFU!
