100th Anniversary
Ural Federal University is proud to carry the torch of the two former higher educational institutions in the Ural region — Ural State University and Ural Polytechnic Institute.
Officially, we trace our roots from the Ural State University which was founded in Ekaterinburg in 1920 by the decree of Vladimir Lenin, the head of the Soviet Government.
Today, Ural Federal University is one of the Russian leading universities. Located in Ekaterinburg — the capital of 2023 FISU World University Games — UrFU takes pride in establishing a truly multinational environment, allocating and educating 4300 foreign students from 101 countries. Ural Federal has initiated the creation of Ural Interregional Research and Education Center (UIREC), aimed at successful completion of National Project 'Science' tasks. In 2020, due to pandemic, all mass events were limited and tranferred into online for the safety of the faculty and students.
“Thanks to our students and partners, the attributes of the 100th anniversary was sent to different parts of the world. Centenary's identity is about the inextricable connection of the past with the future, about the importance of the individual path in scientific discoveries and training. The university is similar to the Space: stellar, bright, attractive for inquiring minds,” said UrFU Rector Victor Koksharov.
