In Russia, Ural Federal University is among the leaders

Ural Federal University confirmed its position among the best universities in the world. According to the results of QS University Rankings: BRICS 2016, the university entered the top 100 universities in the BRICS countries (78 position), and the top 20 universities in Russia (14 position).

Since the creation of ranking in 2013, UrFU improved its place in the ranking by 4 positions.

The experts note high indicators of publication activity, citation and academic reputation of the university, despite the change in the method of their calculation.

"The publications with high citation index and publications produced by the major scientific collaborations are not taken into account anymore, - said the rector of Ural Federal University Victor Koksharov. - In addition, starting from this year, the academic reputation and the reputation among employers is calculated over the past five years. And this period was exactly the period of the two universities mergeк and the creation of a new brand - Ural Federal University."

Thus, in 2016 the indicator of the share of international lecturers let the university to improve its position from 17th to 5th place among the Russian universities. We should also mention that UrFU becomes more and more attractive for international students, the share of which increased from 3.4 to 5.4%, which helped the university to enter top 100 universities of BRICS.

The experts note the increased competition among the Russian universities represented in the rankings, and the considerable changes in them had been done thanks to the project 5-100. The number of the Russian universities in the ranking has almost doubled; it grew from 53 to 97 universities.
