UrFU PhD Student Works on Road Bed Condition Monitoring Project

Victor Chechetkin will present it at the young scientists’ projects contest “Umnik”

UrFU PhD student of the Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies Viktor Chechetkin under the guidance of the Head of the Institute Sergey Shabunin designed a smart device which is able to detect erode roads, ice crusts, landslides and other road problems.

‘Dr. Shabunin and I had been discussing possibilities to put our different projects into practice. There are many of them and they are very diverse, so we decided to combine them in order to create something solid. That`s when the monitoring of the road bed condition project came along,’ said Viktor Chechetkin.

According to the young scientist, the devices are meant to be mounted along the road and will be able to detect and inform services and drivers about problems with the road bed and critical situations with mountain roads in advance.

The station consists of a control unit, antenna system and video capturing system. Companies providing navigation data can help to notify the drivers.

The project of the PhD student of the Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies is still in the development stage. Viktor Chechetkin will present it at the young scientists’ project contest “Umnik”, where the winner will receive 500,000 rubles for development of their project.
