Plant physiologists and biotechnologists of the university will cooperate with Chinese colleagues

Framework agreement on cooperation was signed at a bilateral seminar at the University of Inner Mongolia

On December 13-16, 2017, a two-sided seminar "Plant Stress Physiology and Biotechnology" was held in Hohhot (Inner Mongolia, China), in which five employees of UrFU Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics took part. It was the first stage in establishing concrete scientific ties between scientists of China and Russia. At the end of the seminar, a bilateral framework agreement on cooperation between the UrFU Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and the School of Life Sciences of the University of Inner Mongolia was signed; Chinese colleagues were also invited to visit UrFU.

"We agreed to carry out joint work in the field of plant resistance to heavy metals, the interaction of plants and microorganisms, the search for biologically active compounds from plants and fungi and their use, the creation of transgenic plants with useful properties for humans," said Irina Kiseleva, the head of the Department of Experimental Biology and Biotechnology of UrFU Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. 

Irina Kiseleva told the seminar participants about the university's potential for conducting research in the field of biology. Her scientific report covered studies of the stress physiology and plant resistance to unfavorable conditions both in field studies and in model experiments in laboratories of UrFU. Alexander Yermoshin, an associate professor of the Department of Experimental Biology and Biotechnology of UrFU Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, presented the latest topic being studies at the department: researchers are studying the chemical composition of wood-destroying fungi in order to use them for obtaining biologically active substances necessary in medicine and agriculture.

Scientists of both universities made a total of 17 reports. According to the university staff, this made it possible to understand what joint research could be carried out within the framework of future cooperation.
