Educational programs in smart energy will be developed at UrFU

Staff of Ural Power Engineering Institute together with their colleagues from European, Russian and Vietnamese universities won the Erasmus+ contest. The project named “Establishing Smart Energy System Curriculum at Russian and Vietnamese Universites (ESSENCE)” has received €850 thousand (until 2020).

“In 2019, we are launching the pilot version of the Master’s program, but there’s a lot of preparatory work that must be done before that”, says Stanislav Eroshenko, coordinator of the project from UrFU. “By now, we have prepared questionnaires for the university staff, students, and employers. We are looking to understand what they need and what the program should consist of, like the ratio of theoretical to practical classes, double degree programs and possibilities for studying at European universities for students and faculty members. The survey will be launched in the beginning of February”.

The new Master’s program will be taught in three languages and meet the requirements of Bologna Process and the European Qualification Frame. It is supposed to be devoted to smart energy systems, which combine current achievements in power industry and IT.

“Along with the development of key technologies, the power industry on a global scale needs highly qualified specialists capable of developing, completing and implementing innovative technological solutions in the new market conditions”, say the organizers of the contest.

The list of partners of the ESSENCE project includes Riga Technical University, Grenoble Institute of Technology, Technical University of Košice, Tomsk Polytechnic University, Irkutsk National Research Technical University, Ural Federal University, Kazan State Power Engineering University, North-Eastern Federal University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, Hanoi University of Mining and Geology.
