The university engineer returned from the Vostochny cosmodrome after the successful third launch

The radio sounding station "Polyus", created by the scientists of UrFU Institute of Radio Electronics and Information Technologies in collaboration with the engineers of the plant “Radiy”, collected the data necessary for the successful launch of the Soyuz-2.1from at the Vostochny Cosmodrome. The same system is used at Baikonur.

‘A radiosonde is launched on the gas-engine shell to an altitude of about 30 km. As it travels, it records the characteristics of the atmosphere - temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed and direction. For ballistics, the density of air is additionally calculated. If in some sections of the trajectory the wind exceeds the maximum parameter, the start may be po stponed. This time there were no transfers due to the weather, although during the first and second launch the conditions were close to the boundary. During the third launch with the weather was normal,’ said Oleg Plokhikh, senior lecturer at UrFU Institute of Radio Electronics and Information Technologies.

He noted in early February, only several subsystems of the entire “Polyus” system were operating: stationary subsystem and a mobile one on the KAMAZ chassis.

'A distinctive feature of our system is that our probes work with GLONASS and GPS,’ he added.

The radiosounding station "Polyus" also operates in the Arctic zone, the data is collected for meteorologists twice a day. In the Urals, the installation of systems for the networks of the Federal Service of Roshydromet is underway.
