Bruce Momjian Lectured at the University

The famous IT-propagandist told about the novelties and features of the program PostgreSQL

Co-founder of the global team of PostgreSQL developers, a member of the PostgreSQL core team and a well-known popularizer of IT technologies Bruce Momjian came to Ural Federal University to read the lecture to students and IT specialists "New in PostgreSQL: Today and Tomorrow".

'The Postgres project received a lot of help from Russian developers. I have a lot of friends in Krasnoyarsk who helped us at the very beginning of our work on the system. The solution of some problems could come only from Russia, therefore I always appreciated creativity and curiosity in Russian people. One of the purposes of my visit is to thank the Russian Postgres community for everything they have done for us, and, possibly, to find new specialists,' Bruce Momjian said.

Despite the day off and the fact that the lecture was held in English the lecture hall was full of people, who gathered to listen to the famous lecturer. This is not surprising, because PostgreSQL is one of the most popular open source database management systems in the world, and the Russian Postgres community is growing every year. Mr. Momjian spoke about the new features of the 10th version of PostgeSQL, released in October last year. Bruce explained the innovations of the new version, such as logical replication, table partitioning and parallel query processing. The lecturer also shared his plans for the company's development and noted the great role of Russian IT specialists in this process.

Visit of the co-founder of PostgreSQL to Ekaterinburg took place as part of a Russian tour organized with the support of Postgres Professional. Bruce Momjian has already lectured at the Moscow State University, the Southern Federal University in Rostov, Ural Federal University and went to Novosibirsk, where he will complete his trip around Russia.
