New Institute: the University Expanded Training of Engineers in China

This year the university will increase the number of students from China

Students of Ural Institute, a joint educational project of Ural Federal University and North China University of Water Resources and Hydropower (NCWU), will be trained in four engineering programs under the guidance of the lecturers from Ekaterinburg. The representatives of two universities came to the agreement during the meeting in Zhengzhou, China.

‘In September, we will enroll 300 students from China in joint programs of Specialist and Bachelor level. We will train specialists in architecture, as well as bachelors in geodesy, water supply and energy in collaboration with the Chinese colleagues’, says UrFU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Sergey Knyazev. 'This is a logical continuation of our cooperation and a great contribution to the development of relations among the BRICS countries.'

Sergey Knyazev held talks with his Chinese counterpart, Vice-Rector Liu Xue-Mei, who offered to expand cooperation and establish a center of the Russian language like the Confucius Institute. The main aims of such centers contribute to the spread of the language and culture abroad.

According to Aliona Nevolina, Head of the Directorate for Academic Development of UrFU, at the moment there are 240 students enrolled in the joint program with the NCWU "Civil Engineering", who are independently forming an educational trajectory; 135 of them will be trained at UrFU, which means they will receive diplomas of both universities.

UrFU delegation also included the director of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Alexander Germanenko and the deputy director of Ural Power Engineering Institute Oleg Kotov.

The opening ceremony of Ural Institute was held during the educational forum in Zhengzhou. Participation in the event was received by the first secretary of the Russian Embassy in China, the representative of the Russian Ministry of Education in China Igor Pozdnyakov, as well as the former deputy chairman of the People's Political Consultative Committee of the People's Republic of China, Jiang Zhenghua.
