Student of UrFU Lyceum Wins the Experimental Physics Olympiad

Dmitry Korlyakov won a bronze medal and a diploma of the third degree

The student of the physical and mathematical class (10th grade) of the specialized educational and scientific center of Ural Federal University (UrFU Lyceum) Dmitry Korlyakov became the winner of the VI International Experimental Physics Olympiad (IEPhO). Dmitry recieved a bronze medal and a diploma of the third degree.

‘The Olympiad consists of three rounds, in each of which participants are offered two experimental tasks. The tasks cover all topics of school physics — mechanics, thermodynamics, electromagnetism, and optics,’ says Olga Inisheva, deputy director for scientific work at UrFU Lyceum. ‘All tasks are original, designed specifically for this Olympiad, and suggest that participants have sufficiently deep theoretical knowledge, and, most importantly, a good command of experimental techniques, methods of conducting experiments, estimates of measurement errors, understanding of physical devices’ design and operation.’

IEPhO was held on November 25 - December 3 in Belarus. This year 508 schoolchildren from Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Bulgaria and Slovakia took part in it. The organizers are the Foundation for Support of Innovative Programs "Education and Science" with the support of the Center for Teaching Excellence and the National Center for Continuing Science Education.
