University alumni to be the World Boxing Championship official face

The successful boxer, Egor Mekhontsev, will represent a tournament in the capital of the Urals

According to the official announcement published yesterday, the citizen of Ekaterinburg, Egor Mekhontsev, along with a native of Omsk, Alexey Tishchenko and Oleg Saitov from Novokuybyshevsk were invited to became the faces of the 2019 World Boxing Championships. The tournament will take place in Ekaterinburg in September.

According Mekhontsev, the graduate of the USTU-UPI (now UrFU), the championship is the second most important sporting event after the Olympic Games.

“I am incredibly glad that such notable event will be held at my place and our city will welcome the strongest boxers of the world,” says Egor.— “I’ve participated in the World Cup three times in my life. And I was lucky enough to become a champion once: 10 years ago I became the best boxer on the planet. It was a special feeling and a special time. In September, I’ll be given a chance to see the younger ones compete, support them, and share their success. No matter who they are or which countries they represent”.

The Olympic champion intends to cheer for beautiful boxing and for the strongest representatives of this sport.

“For smart, honest, and strong people, for boxers,” adds Mekhontsev.

Three famous Russian boxers, all awarded with the title of world champion at different times, will represent the tournament that Russia is hosting for the first time. They will be assist in the open training sessions and attend official championship events.

The 20^th Men’s boxing world championship will take place in Ekaterinburg from September 8 to 21. It is expected to receive 450 athletes representing 90 countries will enter the ring, eight of them will receive the world title in the main Olympic weight categories.

The World Boxing Championship 2019 in Ekaterinburg will be patronized by the International Boxing Association (AIBA), the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Boxing Federation of Russia and the Government of the Sverdlovsk Region.

For reference: Egor Mekhontsev, a native of Asbest (Sverdlovsk region), Champion of the London 2012 Olympics, performs in the light heavyweight category. Egor has 14 fights, only one of which ended in a draw. In September 2009, he won the gold of the World Cup held in Milan.
