German-Russian Summer School to start in Dortmund

Consul General of Germany in Ekaterinburg paid visit to the University to discuss the relevance of the project with the Rector

The joint German-Russian Summer School „Smart Electricity and Engineering“ will take place on August 19-30 in the city of Dortmund (Germany). Today the Rector of UrFU, Viktor Koksharov, discussed the importance of the event in the development of educational and scientific cooperation between the two countries with Consul General of Germany in Ekaterinburg, Mathias Kruze.

„This summer school will target the topics of renewable energy and energy efficiency, which is fully in line with the priorities of the roadmap for cooperation in education, science, research and innovation. The document was signed in December 2018 by the Ministers of science and education of the two countries,“ noted Koksharov.

The main feature of this summer school is its practical focus. An opportunity to attend talk sessions with the leaders of large energy companies, research institutes, and government departments. The participants will also visit with the enterprises of integrated power grid complex, factories producing energy equipment.

Consul General Mathias Kruze noted the relevance of the project in relation to the German-Russian Year of Scientific and Educational Partnerships. Many of the recognized German and Russian universities and research institutes are actively involved in the „Year of Science“ initiative. It is also worth noting the summer school program will include a meeting with German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The 2019 Summer School program focuses on energy efficiency and renewable energy, digital transformation, electric mobility, urban development, smartification, the implementation of smart grids and smart city projects. The team of 21 participant from the Russian side will include 14 best students of UrFU specializing in the target areas of study and 7 specialists of the „IDGC of Urals“ company.

Russian-German summer school is a joint project of Ural Federal University and the University of TUCampus EUREF. The school has been held regularly since 2015, bringing in 84 students from both countries.

Ural Federal University is actively cooperating with 23 universities in Germany. For five years, scientists have released 530 joint publications. In the past academic year, six students from Germany participated in exchange programs at UrFU, and 15 students from the Urals university went to study in Germany.
