Sergey Lavrov – We Want to Diversify the Geography of Our Personnel

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told in which universities the MFA Russia is recruiting employees

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in a documentary televised on Channel One dedicated to the 75th anniversary of MGIMO's Russian Foreign Ministry said that there are graduates from the Ural Federal University, St. Petersburg State University, Far Eastern Federal University and other universities among the employees of the foreign ministry. However, he said that the Foreign Ministry is interested in admitting more personnel from Russia’s regions.

“Keeping with our commitments to MGIMO Institute (Moscow State Institute of Foreign Affairs) and the Diplomatic Academy of MFA Russia as our anchor educational institutions, suppliers of our personnel, we are interested in expanding the geography of hires into the ministry, and this trend has been strengthening during my work as minister,” said Sergey Lavrov.

Department of International Relations (DIR) of the Ural Federal University is the main academic ‘forge’ of the Ural region. Here, at the Ural school of IR we are training foreign affairs specialists, experts, scholars of IR, orientalists and linguists. Alumni of UrFU work in diplomatic missions, in various international departments of banks and enterprises, in travel agencies, translators and managers, and also university professors, as well as owners of transportation and logistics companies.
