An Updated App to Help International Students Freely Navigate in the University

UrFU Guide App will tackle the students adaptation issues as international dept. invites more native speakers to join the translators team

Ural Federal University has launched an updated version of the UrFU Guide application in four languages: Russian, English, Chinese and Portuguese. In the new version of the application, bugs were fixed and information sections were supplemented.

“We are constantly monitoring the metrics of our site,” comments Yevgeny Tulisov, head of the department for the development of international partnership and communications at UrFU. - 47% of users access the site from mobile devices, and this is not always convenient, because many sections are not adapted to the width of the screens of smartphones. In the summer of 2019, we set ourselves the goal of updating and making a convenient application for all students. The application covers almost all areas of student life: from migration control and visas to navigating the vast infrastructure of the university. ”

According to Yevgeny Tulisov, it is planned to create a direct connection between the functionality of student's personal account and the application, so that, for example, students could apply for a visa extension or order literature from a mobile phone.

Translations from Russian were made by an employee of the international marketing office and two postgraduate students from China and Brazil.

“We thank Igor Adami, a research engineer at the Department of Theory and History of International Relations, and Lu Jiajin, researcher at the Department of International Economics and Management at GSEM, for their interest in cooperation,” says Yevgeny Tulisov. “In addition, it is expected that versions in Arabic, French, Vietnamese and Spanish will be released soon.” The international department invites all interested speakers of the above languages ​​to join the translation team!”

The UrFU Guide application was developed in a joint collaboration of FT-Soft with the Directorate of Information Technology and the Department for the Development of International Partnership and Communications.
