UrFU to Play a Key Role in Promoting the 2023 World University Games

The Ministry of Higher Education and Science has provided a grant to the university to strengthen mass sports

Ural Federal University is activating the comprehensive promotion of the World University Games, which will be held in Yekaterinburg in 2023. A grant allocated to the university by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in the amount of 50 million rubles will contribute to this. The project, welcoming the World University Games, will be implemented on the basis of UrFU in the year of its 100th anniversary.

According to the Acting Director of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of Ural Federal University, Vice President of the Russian Student Sports Union Evgeny Shurmanov, the goal of the project will be to create an impetus for the development of current trends in student sports and a single information space with other leading universities of the country in anticipation of the competition. To this end, it is planned to implement a complex of educational, educational, athletic and sporting events. The target audience is students.

“We plan to unite Russian universities in solving urgent problems of the development of student sports,” says Evgeny Shurmanov. - This will be done on the platform of the already formed system of all-Russian physical culture and sports events planned for holding in Yekaterinburg with the participation of UrFU. An awareness-raising campaign will be organized in Russian universities on the topic of preparation and participation in the World University Games. It is very important to involve student sports clubs, representatives of the sports community and volunteer centers of the country's leading universities in this process. ”

Evgeny Shurmanov notes that the project will have five strategic, educational, motivational and discussion platforms for 100 leading universities of the Russian Federation (under the program "Top-100: studentsport"): sports management (as part of the ASB League Superfinal), sports experience (in days of the 100th anniversary of Ural Federal University), a sports volunteer (as part of the NSFL home tour of the 2020/21 season and the FISU executive committee), sports achievements (as part of the finals of the All-Russian Summer Universiade - 2020), sports masses (as part of the International University Sports Day - 2020).

The federal partners of the project are the “Universiade – 2023 Executive Directorate” organization, the Russian Student Sports Union, the National Student Football League, the Student Basketball Association, the Student Hockey League and the Association of Student Sports Clubs. The regional partner is the government of the Sverdlovsk region.
