Banners of 100th Anniversary and FISU World University Games were ascended on top of the Europe's highest mountain - Elbrus

Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe. As the highest peak in the Caucasus Mountains, the dormant volcano rises 5,642 m above sea level. The delegation of the Ural Federal University climbed Elbrus to a height of 5642 meters above sea level in the framework of anniversary projects dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the university and the upcoming World Student Games in 2023. The delegation was headed by Evgeny Shurmanov, Director of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy; and Roman Olkhovsky, Vice President of the Russian Student Sports Union and Adviser to the Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation. At the summit, the participants of the ascent raised the flag of the 100th anniversary of UrFU.

“Dmitry Naumov, an employee of the Institute, helped us a lot in climbing. He is a professional instructor and guide. With us, he climbed to the top of Elbrus 12 times already, so he helped with adaptation to the ascent and professional training,” said Evgeny Shurmanov.

In addition, during the ascent on the day of rest, the delegation organized a small training session at an altitude of 4000 meters. The President of the Sverdlovsk Region Rugby Federation Yevgeny Shurmanov and the leader of the Sverdlovsk Region national team Ilya Mordvinov held a training master class "Rules and Basics of the Game in Rugby-7".
