Memo for international students

Dear international students, Ural Federal University is waiting for you!

We are so happy that finally the borders of Russia have opened for all foreign students without exception and we can personally welcome you to UrFU! 

UrFU has been waiting for you for so long and created all necessary conditions to make your start at UrFU easy and safe!

For the successful organization of your arrival to UrFU, please read this memo very carefully, and if you have any questions, we are always happy to help you!

Dear friends, the organization of your arrival requires a lot of effort and time - we ask you for understanding and patience!

Decided to come to study at UrFU from another country?

1. Inform us about your intention to come and send scanned copies of the documents to adaptation@urfu.ru:

a. Passport with a translation into Russian (not necessarily notarized)

*B. For those who need a visa to enter the Russian Federation: a completed Visa Application Form – download the form:

2. Wait for an official invitation to study from UrFU (Please be patient! The preparation of the invitation can take more than 1 month).

3. After receiving an official invitation, apply for a visa to travel to Russia at the Consulate of the Russian Federation.

Before you travel to Russia (required!)

1. Inform the International Students Adaptation Center at least 10 days before arrival by filling out the Arrival Form:

*If you need to be picked up at the airport, railway station and accompanied by an UrFU buddy, make a request to the university at least 3 days before arrival:

2. Get a PCR test for COVID-19 within 48 hours before leaving to Russia

3. Get a medical certificate in Russian or English with a negative result of a PCR test for COVID-19 (for submitting when crossing the border of Russia)

After arrival in Russia (required!)

1. Get the second PCR test for COVID-19 within 48 hours upon arrival in Russia

Examples of laboratories to get tested:

- "KDL" (https://kdl.ru/analizy-i-tseny/rnk-koronavirusa-sars-cov-2)

If you arrive to Yekaterinburg in transit through Moscow, it is strongly recommended to get tested in Moscow (for example, at the airport).

2. Before receiving a negative result of the second PCR test for COVID-19, please self-isolate!

Where and how to self-isolate?

1. In UrFU dormitory for self-isolation (79 Bolshakova str.): you can get a place for a short period - send a request in advance: adaptation@urfu.ru, tel.: +7 (343) 375-41-93, +7 (967) 853-07-02.

2. In a private apartment: for private renting - contact the project office of UrFU Students Union "Private Renting": Yulia Tolmacheva, tel. +7 982 64 33 495).

3. At your relatives’ or friends’ place.

IMPORTANT! Violation of the self-isolation regime is an administrative offense that can lead to sanctions, including expulsion from the university.

After receiving the result of the second PCR test for COVID-19

1. Send scanned copies of both certificates with the results of PCR test for COVID-19 to adaptation@urfu.ru

2. Buy a health insurance policy in any insurance company

A policy can be issued online or at the office of UrFU International Students Adaptation Center (3/1 Kominterna str.; tel.: +7 (343) 375-41-93, +7 (967) 853-07-02).

It is strongly recommended that you apply for a policy that covers the widest possible list of medical services, including:

1.Unlimited number of  requests for outpatient medical services

2.Payment of travel expenses to the permanent place of residence for medical reasons

3.Health insurance coverage limit - not less than $30,000 

To get an accommodation contract for UrFU dormitory:

1. Undergo a medical examination at UrFU Medical Center (59B Komsomolskaya str.): from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 14:00.

2. Get an accommodation contract: at the office of UrFU International Students Adaptation Center (3/1 Kominterna str.; tel.: +7 (343) 375-41-93, +7 (967) 853-07-02). 

Required documents: passport, health insurance policy, medical examination card, two certificates with negative results of PCR test for COVID-19. 

• A certificate of admission to studies will be issued here.

Required documents: a passport, an additional medical insurance policy, two certificates with negative results of PCR examinations + a refusal about the hostel indicating the address of the intended residence.

*If you do not intend to live in the university dormitory, you still need to get a certificate of admission to studies at the office of UrFU International Students Adaptation Center (3/1 Kominterna str.).

3. Get registered in the office GUK-109 (19 Mira str., tel. +7 (343) 375-94-91) within 7 days after crossing the border of the Russian Federation.

Dear students, remember that to get a place in an UrFU dormitory it is also required:

1. For UrFU students: Have no more than 2 outstanding course requirements

2. For those who lived in UrFU dormitory before: Have an accommodation payment debt no more than 1000 rubles

3. The absence of administrative offenses

Get vaccinated! Take care of yourself and others!

Remember that foreign students have the opportunity to get a COVID-19 vaccine in Russia!

UrFU strongly recommends to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and assists in vaccination of all its students.

For those who have already been vaccinated against COVID-19: provide a document of COVID-19 vaccination (or medical withdrawal) in Russian or English.
