The university Vice-Rector for Research told about the results of the past year and the plans for 2022

Today's issue of the Ural Federal newspaper (#3 of February 7) is fully dedicated to the upcoming Russian Science Day. One of the central texts of the issue is an interview with Aleksandr Germanenko, Ural Federal University Vice-Rector for Research, who talked about the results of 2021 and the plans for 2022.

"The total amount of research and development work in 2021 again exceeded 2.3 billion rubles, the university fulfilled the plan for revenues from science by almost 110%. The largest income - about 1.3 billion rubles. The biggest revenues - about 1.3 billion rubles - are due to the fulfillment of more than 200 business contracts. The largest of them are being implemented in the interests of the state corporation Rosatom. The talk is about the development of new corrosion-resistant materials for the nuclear power plant of the liquid-fuel reactor, constructional materials for the fuel salt reprocessing module and technologies for pyrochemical reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel from fast neutron reactors. These projects are led by the Institute of Physics and Technology and the Institute of Chemical Engineering", said Aleksandr Germanenko.

According to the Vice-Rector, the Ural Interregional Research and Education Center (UIREC) continues to develop environmentally friendly and efficient rolling stock for railroads and urban transport at the request of Sinara. The implementation of such major projects as "Chemical design of new multifunctional materials" continued. (Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics), "Development of energy-efficient induction equipment for heating die tooling to vertical hydraulic press for production of aircraft industry products from magnesium and aluminum alloys" (Ural Power Engineering Institute), "Creating high-tech production of high-frequency radar for intelligent driver assistance systems, automatic control systems for unmanned vehicles and intelligent farming systems" (Institute of Physics and Technology).

"Last year also brought us new large-scale projects - on creation and technical re-equipment of thermal furnaces at Uralmashplant (the executor is the Training and Design Center "Design Institute"), on development of adaptive interface of intelligent emergency control devices (Ural Power Engineering Institute)," added Aleksandr Germanenko.

Speaking about the plans for 2022, he noted, in particular, that the university has a very high chance not only to prove, but also to improve its position in the prestigious international rankings.

"For example, we hope that this year or next year we will be among the top 100 universities in the world in the fields of history and philosophy. This is not just a nice figure: foreign applicants traditionally pay close attention to the positions in the international rankings of the universities they choose to enter, and the same approach is gradually forming among Russian applicants," Germanenko explained.

In addition, he spoke in an interview about the mission of Ural Carbon and what prospects the Priority 2030 project opens up for the university.
