Performance of the famous DJ, surprises by the Students’ Union, grand party at “Ekaterinburg-EXPO” and desire of the graduates to continue their education in UrFU – that’s what made UrFU graduation ceremony so special

For UrFU bachelors, specialists and masters the end of June was marked by the graduation ceremony and the grand party to celebrate the event.

The graduation ceremony was held on June 28. Cloaks and academic hats, beautiful dresses and suits, DJ star from Sochi Olympics, surprises by the Students’ Union, tears in parents’ eyes – that’s what the graduates of the top federal university have experienced during the graduation ceremony.

The organizers divided the ceremony into 3 parts. At first the students met their group mates, with whom they spent 4, 5 or 6 years grinding away at the books. In the institutes the students expressed gratitude to their lecturers, walked down the halls and drop into rooms where they studied. They were given the cloaks and academic hats there.

“I’m planning to come back to my home university and to the Students’ Union,  I’m eager to help them in their creative work, and I also want to become an honourable graduate!”, – said Victoriya Gurliv, Ural Power Engineering Institute graduate.

It was opened by DJ Leonid Rudenko, who performed at the Opening Ceremony for Sochi Olympics. 6,000 former students were awarded with the precious documents by Rector, Vice-Rectors, Directors of the Institutes and famous graduates on the square in front of the university on Saturday. For parents, relatives and friends of the graduates the special fan-zone was organized where they could watch the ceremony on the big screen. Besides, the event was broadcasted live on the Internet.

“The youth does not come to an end when you finally get your diploma. At least until you go to work you have time for a good celebration. And I hope today you will have a great time!” – addressed the graduates UrFU rector Viktor Koksharov. “Remember, by tradition, the doors of our university are always opened for you, so come back. And remember also that our lectures work for you and get inspired by you!”

The final part was the grand party at "Ekaterinburg-EXPO". The graduates were entertained by the world-famous DJ Leonid Rudenko, the groups Банд’Эрос and Fontano. The luckiest graduates won a tour abroad, dinner in one of the “highest” restaurants of the city and a bicycle.

According to the organizers, it was possible to hold such a large-scale ceremony because of the endowment from UrFU Endowment Fund, made by last year graduates. By doing so, not only do the graduates care for the future generations of students, they also leave fond memories of themselves in their university and thus contribute to its development.

“Now endowment is a way to support many important students’ initiatives, encourage the best lecturers, who are chosen by our students, help carry out different events. I thank you for help and I hope it will always be like that”, – said the Rector in his address to students and UrFU partners who support the university’s projects.
