Ural Federal University will help to bring the Congress of Sport Psychology to Ekaterinburg

Sidonio Serpa, Professor of the Technical University of Lisbon (Portugal), the head of Human Kinetics department and the President of the World Congress of Sport Psychology, visited Ural Federal University.

The main aim of the visit of Portuguese guest is the promotion of scientific cooperation in the field of sports psychology.  In particular, during his meeting with the rector of Ural Federal University, Viktor Koksharov, the variants of possible cooperation in the organization of the World Congress of Sport Psychology, which may take place in Yekaterinburg in 2021, were discussed. The Congress traces its history since 1965 and has the reputation of the most important congress on sports psychology in the world. The application of Ekaterinburg as a congress host will be presented to the jury in 2016. The final decision will be made in 2017 at the congress in Seville. Viktor Koksharov supported the idea of ​​hosting such a big event in the capital of the Urals, both during the bidding campaign and during the congress. In addition, Ural Federal University is now working on the idea of ​​publishing the journal of sport psychology, independently or in collaboration with one of the foreign editions.

During his three-day visit Sidonio Serpa also held the seminar on the actual problem in the world of sports psychology "The development of talent in sport: socio-psychological aspects". Portuguese professor and students of UrFU Institute of Physical Culture, Sport and Youth Policy modeled various problematic situations, with which athletes are faced nowadays, and talked about ways to solve them.

Sidonio Serpa said that he had an extremely positive impression of being in Ural Federal University, and that every year this feeling only gets stronger. "UrFU is one of the largest universities in Russia and it has very serious connections worldwide. There are highly qualified scientists and there are scientific traditions in the university. One can feels that people have a great desire to develop and build relationships with the global scientific community," –  said Sidonio Serpa.
