Victor Koksharov and Reza Maleki opened the Center of Iranian studies at the University

The new center will allow students to learn the Persian language profoundly and to explore the culture and art of Iran

The Center for Iranian studies and the Persian language was opened at the Ural Federal University today. The head of the Cultural representative office of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia Reza Maleki and UrFU rector Victor Koksharov cut the red ribbon at the entrance to the centre in a solemn atmosphere. 

By means of the new centre, students and staff of the University will be able to study the Persian language at a higher level. Teaching this language at UrFU is currently possible only in the form of elective. Now, according to the agreement, Iran is obliged to send to UrFU Iranian teacher who will work at the University on a permanent basis. In addition, it is planned that the Centre will become a relevant presenter and disseminator of information about the culture and history of Iran.

The center is equipped with an interactive whiteboard and multimedia equipment, there is also a library with books in Persian language. It is planned to supply the centre with an equipment for the receiving of Iranian television channels that will contribute to more effective language learning. 

"Our peoples need to explore each other, and the new center is sure to play a very important role in it, — the head of the Cultural representative office of Islamic Republic of Iran in Russia Reza Maleki said. — I want to thank all those people who opened the centre. Iran has a very rich history, and we will make every effort to present the greatest culture of Iran in all its diversity. When desires and will of the top leaders of our countries is aimed at development of our relationship, the work in this direction becomes particular important".

In turn, UrFU rector Victor Koksharov stressed that the opening of the centre should give an impetus to the development of mutually beneficial relations between Ural Federal University and partner universities in Iran, including Tehran University and the University of Avicenna. 

"The opening of the Center for Iranian studies gives us the opportunity to develop the exchange of students and teachers with Iranian universities, to conduct research in the field of Persian language, to attract people who have a great interest in Persian culture, history and modern Iran. Believe me, there are a lot of them, — Victor Koksharov said. — Today we have laid a solid foundation for this interest to sustain and grow and the cooperation of UrFU and Ural with the Islamic Republic of Iran to flourish". 

The center of Iranian studies is located at the address: 4, Turgenev Street, office 369.
