Iran is interested in the collaboration with the scientists of UrFU

Victor Koksharov and Bekhruz Abtakhi agreed on establishing the communication between UrFU and universities of Iran.

The most promising areas of cooperation between Ural Federal University and universities of Iran were discussed at the meeting of the leaders of UrFU and Bekhruz Abtakhi, the representative of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology and the Ministry of Health Care and Medical Education of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). Bekhruz Abtakhi is also the Associate Professor of the Faculty of Biology of Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran.

The participants considered the necessity of implementation the significant potential of possible cooperation between Ural Federal University and Iranian universities. Two students from Iran are already studying in Ural Federal University. Moreover, a Centre of Iranian Studies of the Chair of Oriental Studies of UrFU has a substantial collection of educational, scientific and fiction literature in Persian, which has been presented to the chair by the Iranian Embassy in the Russian Federation. For several years the students have been learning Persian as an elective course and the collection of books has been used by students and teachers in the educational process and for the research projects.

Viktor Koksharov summoned to strengthen the contact between scientists from Ural Federal University and universities of Iran. "We would like to give our scientists an opportunity to visit Iranian universities in order to conduct negotiations and agree on various options for interaction, - said Victor Koksharov. - We regard Shahid Beheshti University with great respect. Therefore we would like to organize such trip to establish constructive international contacts."

The proposal of Viktor Koksharov was supported by Bekhruz Abtakhi who also expressed readiness to assist in organizing the bidirectional communication which will be beneficial for both sides.

"We are proud of our postgraduates and their achievements. The growth of the Iranian science and the number of scientific publications exceeded the world average index. I strongly believe that the collaboration with scientists from UrFU will be extremely useful for increasing the quantity of joint high-quality publications."- claimed Bekhruz Abtakhi.

During the visit, Bekhruz Abtakhi showed particular interest in educational programmes in natural science and other areas related to medicine and health. In addition to meetings with Victor Koksharov, the Rector of the university, Maxim Khomyakov, the Prorector on International Relations, and Vladimir Kruzhaev, the Prorector on Science, Bekhruz Abtakhi also visited the Institute of Physical Culture, Sport and Youth Policy of UrFU.

The traditional international week for partner universities will be held in UrFU in the middle of June. The event will help to establish contacts with current partners for further development of international cooperation. Over 25 participants from more than 10 countries have already confirmed their participation. It is also possible that a number of Iranian universities, including Shahid Beheshti University, will take part in the event this year.
