UrFU students won Hackathon

During a hackathon UrFU students managed to develop and to present their projects better than others did

 

UrFU students managed to take all prize-winning places at the first full-scale hackathon that was carried out on CISCO technologies. During three days experts from different areas of Software Development worked together to solve problems related to industrial networks. Students of Ural Federal University, Tomsk Polytechnic University and Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering took part in the hackathon. The competition was held at the Innovation center created on the base of Institute of Radioelectronics and Information Technologies with the support of CISCO.

According to the results, the teams from UrFU took all prize-winning places. The first place along with a certificate for 50000 rubles was taken by the team “SUP” with the project "Environmental monitoring of the territory". The team “420207” with the project "Monitoring of occupation of the railway crossing for dispatching and signaling to a moving train" was awarded the second place and 25000 rubles. And the bronze went to team "0×7E0” with the project "Remote monitoring of the health of staff at the workplace”.

Besides, the teams "SUP" (Ural Federal University), "420207" (Ural Federal University) and KGASU-crew (KSUAE) have been invited to UrFU IT Accelerator by the head of the project office of UrFU Centre of Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship Konstantin Animitsa. KGASU-crew team was awarded for the project "Cell Towers Protection System."

After summing up, the project coordinator of  "Internet of things" direction of CISCO Yana Rudenko thanked all participants for their work and expressed confidence that such events will be held at the university on a regular basis.

"CISCO Company conducts such competitions in universities in order to develop the direction of the "Internet of things ", so that students can obtain further insight into it to study it and later to use it in their work, - said Yana Rudenko. - Today it is one of the most popular directions in the world. During hackathon, students were able to put their ideas into practice, at least to the prototype stage, to show them in the right way for the jury to assess and also to talk about the future prospects of the projects. In accordance with the hackathon theme they were able to use CISCO and INTEL equipment”.

A representative of the winning team Anton Gasnikov said that the victory was somewhat unexpected, but very pleasant for them.

"We had come to the hackathon with one idea and we wanted to elaborate it as much as possible during the competition, - says Anton. - And we have really managed to do it. First, we examined the given equipment and then began to structure our project gradually. Of course, our prototype still needs to be finalized, but the most important thing is that at this stage we have reached the goals. The team is likely to spend prize money on further development of the project. "
