More than 100 people plunged into Chinese culture at Ural Federal University

UrFU Confucius Institute celebrated its 10th anniversary and gave presents to their guests.

On September 27 Ural Federal University celebrated the 10th anniversary of Confucius Institute. Students from different countries of the world interested in Chinese language and culture visited the celebration event to learn more about the traditions and customs of this country.

People in 130 countries in the world celebrated this date. More than 100 guests attended the event at UrFU.

Director of UrFU Confucius Institute on Chinese part Professor Chen officially opened the event and thanked all the guests for their interest towards Chinese and Chinese culture.

The celebration was attended by the Consul for Education of the General Consulate of China in Ekaterinburg, Mr Li Bingo. He expressed his gratitude to UrFU for the support and expressed confidence that UrFU Confucius Institute is a real bridge to Chinese language for all interested people.

“There is a good Chinese proverb – a tree grows for 10 years and a person should be educated for 100 years. I hope that our work will contribute to expanding our collaboration and popularization of Chinese language in the world. I congratulate everyone on this great event” – said the consul.

After the opening ceremony the Institute’s representatives held a series of exciting master-classes in Chinese art, calligraphy, Chinese gymnastics and cooking Chinese food. Of course, the organizers could not but mention the secrets of traditional Chinese tea ceremony. There was also a competition in Chinese language and Chinese folk culture. All guests left the event with great impressions and nice gifts.

Confucius Institute

Confucius Institutes represent a network of Chinese cultural and educational centers established by the Chinese Language Council together with foreign sinological centers. The mission of Confucius Institutes is to contribute to understanding China and Chinese culture across the globe.

The first Confucius Institute at Ural Federal University, which was the 16th in Russia, was established on October 28, 2008 together with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. UrFU students now have wide opportunities for learning Chinese language with native speakers, participating in conferences and cultural events.
