UrFU will create methods for targeted delivery of cancer medicines and will train medical radiologists

The Cyclotron Center of Nuclear Medicine is planned to be opened in 2018

The specialists of the Cyclotron Center of Nuclear Medicine of Ural Federal University will develop new methods of targeted delivery of medicines. It is also planned to train medical radiologists and retrain doctors specializing in other areas in collaboration with Ural State Medical University. The future activities were announced by the experts at a press conference in TASS on February, 2.

‘UrFU plans to open the complex facility, the Cyclotron Center of Nuclear Medicine, this year. What we took into consideration is the fact, that there are two crucial factors for the effective treatment of oncological diseases: faster and more accurate method of finding the "enemy" and the most precise method of destroying it; the center will focused at them. One of the stages of the center's development will be the creation of a scientific platform for the search for new techniques that are aimed primarily at targeted delivery of radiopharmaceuticals to the site of tumor localization,' said director of UrFU Cyclotron Center of Nuclear Medicine, Sergei Bazhukov.

According to him, by July 2018, it is planned to launch the cyclotron and, by the end of the year, prepare all necessary documents that allow the center to work in a constant mode. Beside the colleagues from Ural State Medical University, the representatives of the Institute of Organic Synthesis of the Ural Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences and other scientific organizations and industrial enterprises of the region will also take part in the work of the center.
