Doctoral program in Russia – what is it?

According to the Russian educational system, the postgraduate program, called “aspirantura” in Russian, is an equivalent to a Ph.D in American system and is considered as a third stage of higher education
Duration of doctoral program in Russia is 4 years full-time
After completing the program, students defend their thesis (research project) and are awarded an academic rank “Candidate of Science”.
