The University Ranked Fifth in the International Journal of Magnetism

In 2015–2017 UrFU scientists have published 74 articles in Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials

Ural Federal University ranked fifth amongst the research institutes in the number of publications in the leading international journal on magnetism – Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials.

‘Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials is the most suitable for publishing the results of our research. We didn’t aim for any certain position in the rating of the journal, however it is gratifying,’ says the head of the Department of Magnetism and Magnetic Nanomaterials, UrFU Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Vladimir Vaskovskiy.

He reports that collaboration with their foreign colleagues was a major asset – a publication with foreign contributors has higher chances of being published.

UrFU was exceeded in the number of publications by the Russian Academy of Sciences (217 articles), the French National Center for Scientific Research (154), Indian Institute of Technology – a group of 15 Indian institutions (131) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (128) only. Amongst other Russian universities on the list are Moscow State University (7 place, 65 articles) and Siberian Federal University (19 place, 37 articles). Top 10 countries by publication activities on magnetism and magnetic materials are China, India, Russia, the USA, Iran, Germany, France, Brazil, Japan and Pakistan.

‘In Ekaterinburg, including UrFU, many scientists work in the field of magnetism. The foundation for research in this field was established in the post-war years in out university and in the Institute of Metal Physics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences,’ says Deputy Vice-Rector for Research Alexey Ivanov. ‘Today, research on magnetism is conducted in several UrFU institutes, including the Department of Magnetism and Magnetic Nanomaterials, the Department of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics, the Department of Condensed Matter Physics, and the Section of Solid State Magnetism of the Research Institute of Physics and Applied Mathematics of UrFU Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. There is also the Laboratory of Magnetism and Magnetic Nanostructures, established in association with the Institute of Metal Physics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and we also work on projects with NPO Avtomatiki (the State Enterprise Scientific Production Association of Automation).'
