Scientific Hub: UrFU to Train Energy Experts for Egypt

UrFU and Egyptian university signed a diplomatic memorandum of understanding

On December 12, the President of Tanta University Magdi Abdel Raouf Al-Gohari Sab and UrFU Rector Victor Koksharov discussed the perspective of establishing the center for training nuclear power engineers at the Tanta University. Besides, they have signed a memorandum of understanding.

Magdi Abdel Raouf Al-Gohari Sab said: ‘Today we are laying the first stone in the foundation of our relations. 2020 has been declared the year of Russia in Egypt, and I believe that by this time we will be able to show the fruits of our cooperation.’

The president of the Egyptian university located 200 km from the El-Dabaa NPP under construction, noted that after a recent visit of the Russian delegation to the University of Tanta, the Russian Language Department was established for comprehensive training of engineers.

Victor Koksharov noted: ‘Tanta University is our reliable friend and partner. In addition to energetics, we can expand our cooperation in other areas, particularly, in medicine and in teaching the Russian language.’

As previously reported, in 2016, the Tanta University administration strated establishment of a department of nuclear energy, for which scientists of the UrFU Ural Power Engineering Institute prepared and presented a road map.

UrFU and educational institutions of Egypt are linked by long-standing cooperation in the fields of nuclear and renewable energy. A series of scientific publications were prepared following the internship of the lecturer from the University of Alexandria, Ahmed T.A. Jailany, and in the last two years, a number of Ural scientists visited Cairo, Alexandria University and Tanta University, including visits as part of Rosatom delegations.

Tanta University is one of the largest universities in Egypt, with more than 100,000 students. The university is located at a distance of 200 km from the NPP site under construction. In contrast to the metropolitan universities of Egypt, specializing in the fundamentals of nuclear technology, University of Tanta carries out a more applied (engineering) educational process, has the capacity and territory for the development of laboratory facilities for training specialists, some experience in the preparation of power engineers, a language training center Arab States).

UrFU scientists have prepared 45 joint publications with representatives of nine universities of the Arab Republic of Egypt, 41 Egyptian students are studying at the university; the staff of the university includes 14 employees from this country.
