All the Things Digital: Test Drive at UrFU has begun

376 highschoolers from Russia and Kazakhstan started getting acquainted with the Ural Federal University [photoseries]

The annual project “Test Drive at UrFU” was opened yesterday morning with a magnificent show for high school students from Russia and Kazakhstan. The highschoolers were impressed by a dancing robot accompanied by the members of “Forsage” hip-hop crew.

‘This year, UrFU prepared a two-day program for high school students on the topics of digital transformation,’ the organizers shared. ‘376 students of Russian and Kazakh schools will attend lectures and practical classes, take part in games, IT quest and a workshop in robotics, watch a chemistry-physics show, get acquainted with the basics of the digital economy and a new look at the jobs of the digital age.’

The theme for this year’s “Test Drive” is digitalization. For instance, the participants are positive that such trade as bus driving will be obsolete in the near future.

‘Over time, accountants, bus and taxi drivers will be replaced. Companies are already testing self-driving cars,’ Mikhail Diaskov says. ‘I think that teachers won’t disappear. There will probably be scientists who will study Mars, Venus and other space objects, being directly on these planets.'

Besides that, the participants of the “Test Drive” project switched the mental workload for physical after the end of the schoolday, taking part in a sports festival that took place in the UrFU Arena.

The organizers prepared nine challenges: shooting in the range, “big race”, football, fitness, GTO (Ready for Labour and Defence) qualifying standards and ring toss. Apart from that, students had to compete in an intellectual battle, playing the game “Brain Battle”.

The project “Test Drive at UrFU” was established with the aim of helping highschoolers from Russia and the CIS states to choose their future job. This year, 376 high school students “lived” the university student life. Those of them who successfully pass the final test will get two additional points to the results of the Unified State Examination upon admission to UrFU. The event has been held in Ekaterinburg on winter holidays since 2013.
