Summer internship awaits winners of the "Lesomaniya" quest

The second place on the All-Russian student quest "Lesomaniya" (Forest Mania) was taken by UrFU eco-volunteer students. In the summer, they will travel to Chennai, India for an internship dedicated to forest restoration and responsible forest management.

‘We planted 300 trees, collected 569 kg of waste paper and planted 50 plants on the university campus,’ Yulia Grishchenko, captain of Ural Federal University’s eco-team, says.

The team will be awarded at the All-Russian rally of the Association of Green Schools in Moscow on March 29.

The quest “Lesomaniya” was organized by the company “Leroy Merlin” with the support of the “EKA” movement and the Association of Green Universities of Russia. It was held from September 17, 2018 to February 28, 2019. Teams from 124 Russian universities took part in the contest.

According to the organizers, the quest was carried out to foster responsibility towards forests among students and to provide training for the rational use of wood products. The students planted trees, taught lessons on sustainability for schoolchildren, handed over waste paper for recycling, created PSAs about forest conservation, and carried out other practical and creative tasks.

The university is the project office of the Ural Interregional Research and Education Center "Advanced Industrial Technologies and Materials" designed for solving tasks of "Science" National Project.
