Konstantin Gribanov tested one of the first mobile laser spectrometers in Russia

Before opening the new field season, the employees of the Arctic Research Station of the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology (Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences), tested the equipment they will work with. Laser spectrometer Picarro G4301 is a new device in the equipment.

It is a backpack with a GPS receiver antenna. Its weight is about 11.5 kg.

Associate Professor of the UrFU Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Konstantin Gribanov held a workshop on the use of one of the first mobile laser spectrometers in Russia for his colleagues.

‘I showed how to use the device carefully so that it lasts a long time. Mobile spectrometer is very convenient for field work. I recommended the equipment for the laboratory of the Arctic research station as I have experience with similar equipment. We have similar devices in the Laboratory of Climate Physics and the Environment, although they aren’t portable,’ the scientist explained.

A mobile laser spectrometer, capable of operating for eight hours without recharging, is designed to study changes in the state of permafrost. It will help improve and refine global climate models.
