Roman Iagovitin studies new active materials for electrochemical transducers

Ural Federal University senior Roman Iagovitin is involved in the development of new active materials to be used for production. He proposed a project on the creation of complex oxides for fuel cells which can be used to produce clean energy and might replace hydrocarbon fuel sources.

‘The essence of the project is the development of new active materials, which are the basis for the creation of ceramic products,’ Roman Iagovitin noted. ‘Those, in turn, are an essential component for creating electrochemical transducers, which are used to obtain electric current directly from gas.’

Ceramic material serves a purpose of a membrane and should not only keep high temperatures and be durable, but also exhibit certain chemical properties. World-class laboratories are seeking the most efficient solutions to cater to these particular needs.

Roman has brought up this issue during the meeting of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin with UrFU students last week. On July 12, the senior discussed the technology with the experts representing the scientific division of the Rosatom Corporation.

‘I’m glad that the Rosatom experts responded and visited the university quickly,’ Mr. Iagovitin adds.

Alexander Cherepanov, UrFU Center for Enterprise Relations Deputy Director, emphasizes that UrFU has long-standing, fruitful collaboration with the state corporation, and the research in the field of new active materials will mark the new stage of this collaboration.

‘We will work on the solution up until the end-product as part of the range of Rosatom projects and their economic feasibility assessment,’ — Mr. Cherepanov says.

Rosatom working group headed by Pavel Zaytsev, Director General of JSC "Science and Innovations”, arrived at UrFU to work through the project and assess its prospects.

Over the last three years, the scientific cooperation between Ural Federal University and Rosatom amounted to 600 million rubles. Besides that, the university and the state corporation have long-standing ties in the academic field: arranging internships, employment assistance, joint development of educational programs, holding the “Rosatom Career Days”.
