Sergey Karyakin Wins Stage 8 of Rally Marathon

UrFU graduate was 13 minutes away from his nearest rival from America

Racer from Ekaterinburg, Ural Federal University graduate Sergey Karyakin won Stage 8 of the Silk Way Rally which took place on July 6–16. The route runs through Russia, Mongolia and China.

‘Today was a tough day: 450 km — liaison, 320 km — special stage and liaison for another 30 km. The special stage was terrific, awesome, interesting, we enjoyed it. Indeed, it wasn’t the part of Mongolia close to China. The location changed; there were decent dunes and sand,’ Sergey shared on his VK page.

American racer Austin Jones was second, being 13 minutes apart from the Ural athlete. Sergey Karyaking tops the overall standings, leaving his American opponent 1 hour 20 minutes behind.

Silk Way Rally is an international sports event of the highest rank of complexity in rally raid motorsport. The race has been held since 2009. In 2019 the event was held for the ninth time. For the first time this year bikes and quads were included in the competition along with cars and trucks.
