15 teams from the Sverdlovsk region made it to the finals of the contest “Digital Breakthrough”

The university co-hosted the regional stage of the largest IT project in Russia

The regional stage of the largest national competition “Digital Breakthrough” searching for new perspective employees for the digital economy throughout Russia has finished in the Ural Federal University. The event was attended and supervised by prominent experts in the field of programming, design and project management. Following the hackathon, 15 best teams have made it into the finals of the contest that will take place in Kazan in September 2019.The semifinals has brought together several contesting teams from the Sverdlovsk region. Challenged to solve issue-specific tasks related to the key areas of the country’s development, as reflected in the national projects, the participants in Ekaterinburg worked on solutions in five nominations: “Public Administration”, “Housing and Public Utilities and Urban Environment”, “Transport and Logistics”, “Education and Science” and “Healthcare”.

“It is a great honor for Ural Federal University to be co-hosting the Digital Breakthrough competition,” noted Nadezhda Terlyga, Deputy First Vice-Rector of Ural Federal University. Digitalization is increasingly penetrating into all spheres of social life. Hence, there is a growing demand for specialists in development and implementation of digital services in certain industries. The nominations of this competition reflected the main stakeholders among Russian businesses, for whom digital development is the key for achieving competitiveness and market positions. The competition is focused on selecting the best experts in this field. These are the makers or the future makers of digital technologies in Russia.“

Along with Ekaterinburg, the final round of hackathons ran in Moscow, Irkutsk, Kursk, and Vladikavkaz. They completed the regional stage of the competition, held in 40 cities of Russia from June 6 to July 28.

“The regional stage of the Digital Breakthrough competition is successfully completed,” sums up the project manager of “Russia — the Country of Opportunities”, Luka Gorubin. — We thankthe teams from the Sverdlovsk region for the final spurt, for being so incredibly resilient, insightful and professional. My special congratulations to the winners, who will go to the finals in Kazan. You are the best and you have no bounds!“

The team Jingu Didital was one of the winners. The team lead, Denis Khromov, noted the large scale of the competition:

“I have quite a lot of experience participating in such events, but after this weekend I can safely say that the Digital Breakthrough hackathon is the largest of them all,” says Denis. We worked on a solution for agricultural enterprises based on augmented reality technology, allowing the managers to give real-time instructions to their employees. For example, an employee wearing special glasses receives all the tasks and instructions through them and deals with them straight away“.

The winners of the regional stage, which took place in 40 cities, will take part in the final round of the competition. The latter provides them with a chance to start a business, get a job in leading companies across Russia, win a cash prize of 500,000 rubles per team, or receive a grant from the Innovation Assistance Fund to support their project development. The contestants will also have the opportunity to receive professional training in special educational programs in the “Senezh” Management Workshop — the educational center of the Project “Russia — the Country of Opportunities”.
