The Rector of the University joined the XXXII World Summer Universiade Organising Committee

Rector of the Ural Federal University Viktor Koksharov joined the organising committee for the preparation and holding of the XXXII World Summer Universiade, which will take place in 2023 in Ekaterinburg. Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed the order.

"The hosting of the World Summer Universiade in Ekaterinburg in 2023 will be a serious incentive for the development of student sports both in the region and, in particular, at the Ural Federal University. New sports facilities and urban infrastructure will be an important legacy of the games. The main thing that will remain for the university and the city is the Athletes Village, which will become a new university campus with modern educational buildings and hostels. We are proud of the opportunity to host such a high-level competition and train athletes and university volunteers at the highest level," explains Viktor Koksharov.

The organising committee also included members of the supervisory board of the university: the Governor of the Sverdlovsk region Evgeny Kuyvashev, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Pipe Metallurgical Co., OJSC Dmitry Pumpyansky, the member of the Federation Council Arkady Chernetsky, as well as employees of the Institute of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Policy of Ural Federal University — Acting Director Evgeny Shurmanov and the Head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports Leonid Rapoport. The total number of members of the Organizing Committee is 41. 

We want to remind you that 244 medal events are planned to be held at the 2023 Summer Universiade. The World Summer Universiade programme includes 15 compulsory sports activities: badminton, basketball, water polo, volleyball, judo, athletics, fencing, rhythmic gymnastics and others. The Ural Federal University will prepare four sports facilities: a stadium, athletics arena, a swimming pool and a sports complex for gaming sports.
