Viktor Koksharov - 'Ural Federal Had Become a Constant Participant in International Collaborations'

Training and creating technologies for the digital economy, applied research at the world-class Ural Interregional Science Education Center (UISEC) will become the main priorities of the Ural Federal University for, at least, the coming year. On October 26, Rector Viktor Koksharov presented to the international council of the 5-100 project a university development strategy and preliminary results of UrFU participation in the competitiveness improvement program. 

“One of the main achievements is the establishment of the university as a constant and systemic participant in international collaborations, which is characterized by increased performance and recognition from international organizations. UrFU initiated projects to create the BRICS Materials Science Center, the Science Education Center Advanced Industrial Technologies and Materials, the innovative science and technology center, and the nuclear medicine center,” said Viktor Koksharov.

The key role of large partner enterprises of the university in the transformation of the educational process is noted by the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of UrFU and Chairman of the Board of Directors of TMK Dmitry Pumpyansky.

“Thanks to participation in the 5-100 project, our university’s relations with industrial partners are dynamically developing as part of the implementation of a project-oriented approach. The design form of training has already been introduced at the Institute of Radio Electronics and Information Technology, and is being introduced at the Ural Power and Ural Humanitarian Institutes. In 2018, experts from 44 of our industrial partners were involved in this activity," said Dmitry Pumpyansky.

The successful launch of internal transformation mechanisms is confirmed by the dynamics of UrFU promotion in QS World University Rankings - 286 points over the past three years. According to Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, a high-quality result of the implementation of the “5-100” project is the inclusion of universities participating in the project in institutional, sectoral and subject ratings.

“The 5-100 project is a flagship project for universities and a challenge for every Russian university. We are approaching with great attention the development of new criteria and recommendations that will appear for the next six-year stage of “5-100”. The project is included in the federal project "Young Professionals" of the national project "Education", and we very much hope that we will expand the program "5-100" from 2021," Tatyana Golikova emphasized.

On October 24–26, 2019, a meeting of the 5-100 Project council was held in Moscow. Representatives of the Russian and foreign academic community, together with international experts in the field of education, will outline the main vectors for the further development of the national higher education institution. The Council will consider the reports of universities participating in the program and prepare recommendations on providing state support to universities in 2020.
