University to Open United Nations Sustainable Development Center

Rector and the Executive Director of the UN-Habitat Program agreed upon opening the UN Sustainable Development Center [photo report]

Ural Federal will open the UN Sustainable Development Center. Executive Director of the UN-Habitat program, Maimuna Mohd Sharif, and the Rector of the university, Viktor Koksharov, discussed this on October 31 during the visit of Madame Sharif to UrFU. In addition, the UN Under-Secretary-General invited the university to join the UN Human Settlements Program.

“The UN-Habitat program has a fairly large-scale partnership program. We have partner universities. We are very open to cooperation with universities. And we would be happy if you once joined the UN-Habitat program,” M-me Sharif explains.

The partnership initiative together with universities helps to form a new generation of leaders, leaders, researchers of urban spaces. It also promotes cooperation between the UN and universities around the world, and allows universities to actively address the problems of cities. The program includes more than 2'300 universities around the world.

Other areas of cooperation between the Ural Federal and the UN, which were agreed by the rector and program manager, are joint publishing activity in Changing Societies and Personalities magazine and internship of Ural Federal University students in the UN-Habitat structures.In addition, Maimuna Mohd Sharif gave a lecture to university students on the principles of sustainable urban development in the world and the role of UN-Habitat in providing advisory work for comfortable living spaces around the world.
