Scientists Developed a Technology for the Production of Feed Using Microorganisms

Highly productive food is created on the basis of agricultural and poultry waste

Employees of the Center for Biotransformation Technologies of UrFU and the Scientific and Production Center Uralbiosynthesis have developed a technology for creating high-quality feed for fish, poultry and cattle. Using this technology, microorganisms process plant and poultry waste into a diet rich in protein and probiotics. The result is something like sports nutrition for animals.

“The raw materials for biosynthesis are residues from the turnover of crops, feathers and insides of poultry. The output is environmentally friendly, highly productive and healthy food, saturated with proteins and enriched with probiotics. The digestibility of such feeds reaches 80%, while in the general case the digestibility of animal proteins does not exceed 30%, ”explains Dmitry Savinykh, Director of the Uralbiosynthesis Research and Production Center. - Thus, it turns out almost a closed production cycle, waste-free production. And with the help of microorganisms, the problem of the lack of animal protein in the diet of farm animals, poultry and aquaculture is solved. At the same time, a normal diet is provided by three times less animal protein compared to existing feeds. "

In order for the animals to increase mass, two components are needed: protein-rich and easily digestible food. New foods are easily absorbed by the body, and since they are saturated with protein, in the end, animals need less food to get the required amount of protein.

“Development is cost-effective. In addition to the fact that microorganisms produce deep waste processing, they are also not demanding: anything can be the raw material for them. There is no need to build factories in which the waste will turn into something useful. It’s only necessary to develop and remove microorganisms for each type of waste, which scientists do, ”says Alexander Cherepanov, deputy director of the center for work with enterprises of UrFU.

The partner of the university and Uralbiosynthesis in the project were the Bogdanovich feed mill and the Reftinskaya poultry farm (Sverdlovsk region).

“I assess the first results of the cooperation as positive, ahead of me is the necessary testing and modeling of various products with the given parameters,” comments Alexander Zasypkin, Director General of the poultry farm. - Feed is the most important factor in the quality of our products and the economic efficiency of the enterprise. The proposed technology promises relatively inexpensive and highly nutritious feeds, the use of which will provide an increase in the weight of the bird. Considering that the Reftinskaya poultry farm consists of 4 million chickens, each additional gram of meat together gives tens of tons of growth and millions of rubles of additional revenue annually. These funds can serve as a modernization of equipment, implementation of innovations, in a word, further growth of production. ”

In addition, according to Zasypkin, the use of domestic technology reduces the dependence on imported feed components and their prices, which fluctuate with the exchange rate, which as a result increases the food security of Russia.

“Cooperation with the Center for Biotransformation Technologies of UrFU relieves partner enterprises of serious research costs: they are carried out within the university. And the center’s employees - Russian and foreign young scientists, undergraduates and graduate students of UrFU - thanks to participation in its activities, get access to the resources of enterprises in the real sector of the economy, opportunities for practical implementation of the results of scientific research and growth in science, in the future - well-paid work ”, - emphasizes Alexander Cherepanov.
