UrFU’s Experience in the Field of Digitalization Will We Used in Development of Russian Sports

Evgeniy Shurmanov addressed the meeting of the interdepartmental working group

Ural Federal University's competencies will be fully used for implementing digital technologies into the sports industry in Russia. A key pillar of the work in this direction will be the deployment of IT services that will contribute to the digital development of sports at higher educational institutions.

Just before the discussion, another meeting of the interdepartmental working group on digital transformation of the sphere of physical culture and sports was held, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Andrey Selsky, dedicated to pilot projects for the digital development of sports in the constituent entities of Russia. At the meeting Evgeniy Shurmanov, Acting Director of UrFU Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Youth Policy, made a presentation on the concept of digitalization of the sports industry at the university and its implementation mechanisms, including for the purpose of organizing the XXXII Summer World University Games 2023 in Ekaterinburg.

“The Institute of Physical Education, Sports and Youth Policy actively carries out research in the field of digitalization of the sports industry,” says Evgeniy Shurmanov. - Some of the research results are already being implemented in practice and some of them will be introduced in the nearest future. The most recent projects includes the installation of the information system "Sports Complex Services" with a very wide range of functionality: from information about the operation of the university’s sports facilities to an online payment service at the sports complex."

Evgeniy Shurmanov also talked about promising projects of the Institute in the field of digital transformation, planned for the period from 2020 to 2023. This includes secured high-speed communication channels for all sports facilities, video surveillance and video analytics technologies at sports facilities, an automatic thermal imaging control of visitors and personnel, a safe air and surface disinfection system at sports facilities, a unified monitoring and control system for system facilities, as well as distance learning technologies for physical education.

In addition, on July 14, 2020 the Institute submitted an application for participation in the Russian-Korean contest "Joint development of an integrated management system for IoT facilities in terms of efficiency of using solar energy by the example of the reconstruction of the rugby stadium for the World Student Games - 2023 in Yekaterinburg."

Based on discussions of Evgeniy Shurmanov's presentation, a suggestion of possible creation of an expert group “IT services for digital sports development in Russian universities” was endorsed by the meeting participants.
